Chimney Flauncing

Why Having Good Chimney Flaunching Is Essential
Flaunching acts like a rain hat on top of your chimney. Itβs the sloped mortar that secures the chimney pots in place and channels rainwater away from the top of the stack, preventing it from soaking into the brickwork or flue.
Over time, constant exposure to the elements especially frost, rain, and extreme temperature changes can cause the flaunching to crack, loosen, or break away entirely.
When this happens, the chimney pots can become unstable or even fall, posing a serious risk to people and property below. The top layers of brickwork may also be affected, further compromising the structure.
Cracked or missing flaunching allows rainwater to enter the chimney, accelerating the erosion of masonry, damaging internal flue liners, and potentially leading to damp issues inside your home.
Keeping your flaunching in good condition is critical to maintaining the safety, stability, and weather resistance of your chimney. Regular inspections and timely repairs can prevent costly damage and extend the lifespan of the entire stack.

How We Carry Out Chimney Flaunching Repairs
We start by assessing the condition of the existing flaunching and chimney pots.
If the mortar is cracked, loose, or beyond repair, we carefully remove it and clean down the crown of the chimney to prepare a stable base for the new work.
With the chimney surface cleaned and cleared, we mix a strong, weather-resistant mortar suitable for high exposure applications.
We then rebed the chimney pots (if needed) and apply fresh flaunching mortar around their base, carefully shaping it with the correct slope to ensure water runs off efficiently and does not pool or penetrate.
Our flaunching work not only provides a watertight seal but also ensures the pots are securely fixed and the chimney top is left with a clean, professional finish.
As with all our chimney services, we carry out the work using our tracked cherry picker, giving us safe, scaffold-free access to the chimney making the repair quicker, cleaner, and more convenient for you.
